1. PASS-ADIAB: New version of the PASS survey data linked to administrative data of the IAB (PASS-ADIAB) is now available

The Panel Labour Market and Social Security (PASS) is a central dataset for research on the labour market, poverty and means-tested income support in Germany.

This dataset makes it possible to analyze the dynamic of the receipt of Unemployment Benefit II as well as the effects of receipt of social benefits on the economic and social situation of the affected households and individuals. The linked administrative data set contains variables with individual characteristics of the PASS survey data respondents. The administrative data cover the years 1975-2014.

For further information and download of the working tools please visit our website: http://fdz.iab.de/en/FDZ_Individual_Data/PASS.aspx

If you want to update your project, please send us an e-mail (iab.fdz@iab.de)

4. FDZ Methodenreport 07/2017 'A Novel Technology-Industry Concordance Table Based on Linked Inventor-Establishment Data' by Matthias Dorner and Dietmar Harhoff is now available

Mapping technologies into industries is frequently required in empirical innovation studies, but many concordances only provide coarse mappings. We develop novel concordance tables between industries and technologies making use of linked inventor-employee patent data for Germany. The data comprise 235,933 patents filed between 1999 and 2011 at the European Patent Office. Data on inventors are matched and disambiguated with social security records available at the Institute for Employment Research. Employment data recorded in this database include detailed industry codes describing the industrial activities of the inventors’ establishments. The linked inventor-establishment microdata allow us to identify the precise industry of origin of inventions, combine them with technology classifications from the inventors’ patents and to generate novel concordance tables. We evaluate our approach by comparing the concordance tables with existing work, and we discuss the validity of patent statistics by industries as indicators for innovation.

5. Closing of our location in Bremer

Our location in Bremen will be closed at the end of the year 2017 due to very low numbers of visiting researchers. In the future please visit one of our other locations in Germany and abroad: http://fdz.iab.de/en/FDZ_Data_Access/FDZ_On-Site_Use/Standorte.aspx

6. Our confidentiality requirements

We want to remind that on-site or remote access to our data requires that our users comply with our confidentiality requirements. Section 7 (5) of the use agreement states:

'Social data and project output must not be copied handwritten, printed, photographed, copied with any other measure, duplicated, or removed from the computing environment of the FDZ of the BA. The dissemination of social data or project output via email, text messages, fax or any other forms of communication is prohibited.'

It is therefore not allowed to collect or make notes about individual data points during the on-site stay within the do-files that will be sent to you. The same rule applies for any output in JoSuA's internal-use-mode. This is true even if your sole intend is to inform your co-authors (or even us!) about certain aspects/problems you found in the data. If you want to discuss data problems with us, please contact us beforehand and tell us about the general problem. If the solution requires that you point us to specific cases, we will advise you to do so without breaching your contract. Please do NOT send us (or others) any individual or establishment ID's or copies of data spells or full individual biographies under any circumstance.
